Excerpt: When Lightning Strikes by Sedona Venez
Release Date: April 15th 2014
My body shivered with unease as I scooted back into my chair. My unease heightened when my body instantly went on high alert like a cornered animal. I watched with narrowed eyes as the door slammed open. Storm and Knox burst in, followed by four men. My unease increased tenfold when my eyes were drawn to the only man on Earth who simultaneously made my sex clench with lust and stomach roll with hatred—Ryker Alfero.

From the throne of glass rules a king with a fist of iron and a soul black as pitch. Assassin Celaena Sardothien won a brutal contest to become his Champion. Yet Celaena is far from loyal to the crown. She hides her secret vigilantly; she knows that the man she serves is bent on evil.
Keeping up the deadly charade becomes increasingly difficult when Celaena realizes she is not the only one seeking justice. As she tries to untangle the mysteries buried deep within the glass castle, her closest relationships suffer. It seems no one is above questioning her allegiances—not the Crown Prince Dorian; not Chaol, the Captain of the Guard; not even her best friend, Nehemia, a foreign princess with a rebel heart.
Then one terrible night, the secrets they have all been keeping lead to an unspeakable tragedy. As Celaena's world shatters, she will be forced to give up the very thing most precious to her and decide once and for all where her true loyalties lie...and whom she is ultimately willing to fight for.
In the novellas, you could see that Sarah is trying to find an even footing, even in the first book, but now she managed to have a firm grasp of what she wanted. Sorry, for the shift from foot to hands. She managed to do it discreetly that it's not a bogus addition of events and materials. The book contains a lot of mysteries and action that you just can't stop. More and more things are unfolding and we could now truly see the world Sarah made for us.
After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: she must act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin. Her opponents are men-thieves and assassins and warriors from across the empire, each sponsored by a member of the king's council. If she beats her opponents in a series of eliminations, she'll serve the kingdom for three years and then be granted her freedom.
Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilirating. But she's bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her... but it's the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best.
Then one of the other contestants turns up dead... quickly followed by another.
Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined.
Dating the Prince of Darkness has its challenges...
Leila's psychic abilities have been failing her, and now she isn't sure what the future holds. If that weren't enough, her lover, Vlad, has been acting distant. Though Leila is a mere mortal, she's also a modern woman who refuses to accept the cold shoulder treatment forever–especially from the darkly handsome vampire who still won't admit that he loves her.
Like choosing between eternal love and a loveless eternity...
Soon circumstances send Leila back to the carnival circuit, where tragedy strikes. And when she finds herself in the crosshairs of a killer who may be closer than she realizes, Leila must decide who to trust– the fiery vampire who arouses her passions like no other or the tortured knight who longs to be more than a friend? With danger stalking her every step of the way, all it takes is one wrong move to damn her for eternity.
This is a really interesting and great read. I seriously regretted it that I didn't immediately read it and I just let it rot in my shelf for a few months. It's really great that Vlad got his own book. This gives us Vlad-fans something to squeal about. I love how Jeaniene make near death experiences that makes everything oh-so-great. Cat made an appearance in the book but there are no signs of Bones, which is really sad.
After their close call with the Mogadorians, the Gardes, John, Six, Marina, Eight, Nine & Ella, are staying in Nine's penthouse in Chicago. Finding a spot to hide in and having a little peace doesn't mean that fighting for Earth is on a standstill, as well. The Gardes need to plan there next move in fighting the Mogadorians. A group of alien kids could not take out a whole army that easily, even if most of them have super powers. However, now, running is not simply an option anymore. The Gardes plans to fight back, hard.
To do this, they need to improve on their Legacies and work together to bring down their enemies and save the Earth. With the message from Five calling them and being reunited with their friends, maybe, they have a fighting chance after all. However, not everything is black and white in their world.
Darn! I can't get over this book. The revelations! I'm going to have a heart attack. I need the next book!!!!!!!!
Though the story was pretty neat and interesting, I only gave it a 4 because not much happened. Other than the revelations in the last few pages of the book, I think the biggest thing that happened is with Adam, which is not even a part of this book. You could say I was a bit disappointed because most of what happened is all about relationship build-ups, Sarah & John (irritatingly), Six & Sam, Marina & Eight(FYI, these are pretty obvious so it is not spoiling). I just hoped they could have done something more in this book than just wait around.

“You,” Gavin breathed, “are trouble, Camille Hart.”
I half panted, half laughed. He only called me by my maiden name when I was indeed trouble. “Well, I hope you learned your lesson. Next time, don’t be so bossy.” Smiling into his neck, I gave him a light bite, sucking gently on his damp skin.
One Broke Girl Excerpt
“You work here? I thought…” Gavin cleared his throat, and his Adam’s apple bobbed right above the knot of his blue tie. “I figured there was some kind of certification or testing to be in food service at a school.”

Mr Right and Mr Wrong Excerpt
Chloe prepares to go out on a date
I think I am sweating over it too much. Just because I haven’t been on a date for nearly five months, it doesn’t mean that my whole life should disappear into a wormhole of date-related worries. The recent ones were odd like, what if I farted, or if I snorted like a wild boar at Terrence’s jokes.
