Boring and disappointing that's what I can say to this book.
After living for thousands of year, Mencheres tries to end his life and leave his line to Bones, his co-ruler. After years of suffering, he could finally rest and save his line from his uncle. However, everything changed when he met Kira. Kira is a private investigator caught up in the vampire world and forced to change into one. Mencheres is accused of killing a Enforcer and exposing the vampire line by his uncle. Mencheres needs to prove his innocence to save his line and Kira. Would Mencheres still give his life up after the darkness.
I didn't really like this book. I keep imagining Mencheres as this old dude because Bones keep calling him Grandsire (Even though he looks much younger than Bones) so technically, I'm imagining an old dude with a 30 something woman. (eeewwww....) On the other hand, the book is quite predictable, Kira saving Mencheres from his despair. The story progress was also so slow. Nothing really happened. They only spent a few days together and they were able to finish and solve everything.
Another one is Mencheres is such a drama queen. "I was shock yet again.." Ya, we get it! It's something you don't see every time but can't you get it in your head the girl is unpredictable no matter what so stop it already. Stop being such a sissy as well. The next one is Kira. She suddenly fell for the guy within a few days. I don't like how the author arranged her personality, as well. It seems that she is such a perfect heroine that it becomes irritating. She is an unstoppable woman.
The book is narrated in 2 perspective as well, in Mencheres' and Kira's. I wished Jeaniene just made Kira the main one, as not to ruin Mencheres' mysterious personality and made him look like a sissy.
This book was a torture. The good side is it's hell week so I'm supposed to drop a book and study.
PS: I also don't like the cover of this book :(
